I'm so excited for our upcoming trip to Dubuque February 19-21! I can't wait to see how God uses our time "retreating" from the world, having fun, connecting relationally, and examining how to develop a lifestyle of being in the world without conforming to it - REALLY making a difference in this life. We'll be using great material from Student Life called INHABIT.

Hello 180! It's Jase here! Unfortunately, there is no 180 tonight, so you're missing out on the talk I prepared for you. However, because I love you all so much and want you to grow in your journey towards/with Christ (and because I don't want my preparation to go to waste), I am sending you all this devotional I created from the content I was going to talk about. Take some time and meet with God today.
God is HUGE and Right
It's no secret that God is big. I mean, he created the universe, right? You've gotta be big to do that! But, take a minute and think about what that really means. He created the universe! Having a hard time grasping that? Check out this video for a little help:
Pretty awesome isn't it? God made all that! Doesn't that take your breath away? Take a few minutes and let that sink in. Let this lead you into a spirit of worship.
Does that knowledge make you feel small? Unimportant? It shouldn't! On the reverse side of things, God made you specifically. Psalm 139:13 says, "For you formed my inward parts; you knitted me together in my mother's womb." (ESV)
Not only did God create the whole universe, but he made you with intricate detail. He loves you and wants you to know him.
Before moving on, stop and think about these questions. If you have a friend or family member nearby, discuss these with them:
1. Once I grasp how HUGE God is, what should my response to him be?
2. What does a right fear of God look like? Should it push me towards him or make me scared?
Now check out this video:
Alright, that was mostly just for fun. Seriously though, God IS bigger than the boogie man. No joke.
Here's a new question to think about. Have you ever sinned? Ever messed up? If you answered no, you just proved yourself wrong. We all go against God's word sometimes. Have you ever thought about what that means? God's given us a standard to live by that he says is best for us. When we intentionally go against what God says is best for us, we are basically saying we know better than God what's best for us. I'm as guilty of this as anyone. I constantly choose my own way instead of what God has set apart for me. Read Job 38 (go all the way to 42 if you have time!) The Lord responds in two speeches, each followed by a brief response from Job. In the first, the Lord asks Job whether he knows how creation and its creatures are governed (38:1–40:2). Job, now made conscious of his ignorance, responds by pledging silence (40:3–5). In his second speech, the Lord asks Job particularly about power in relation to himself and other creatures he has made (40:6–41:34). Job, directly aware of God as never before, responds by humbly submitting to God's sovereignty and penitently despising himself for his earlier wild words (42:1–6). While Job had rightly defended himself against his friends' accusations of sin and had defined his circumstances as being governed by God, he had drawn conclusions about what his affliction meant that did not account sufficiently for what was hidden in the knowledge and purposes of God.
I know that's a lot to take in, but let this change the way you think about and respond to God. Allow him to change your heart and work in you. Have a great snow day!
